Jason Smith's The Ed
Abominable Snowman

CKUK Junior Writer and Web Dude Ross has disappeared off to the mountains for a few weeks snowboarding - the lucky so and so. Not that we're jealous or anything! In honour of Rossco's icy adventure and progress on hucking his 720 doner-kebab back-flips off cliffs, and cos we love the soundtrack, here's a little snow action to make you all you other work bound souls as green as we are - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8920078496795025788 Ross will be back in action as soon as he gets back and is keen to hear from all you canoe clubs out there who would like to appear in the pages of CK in our Club Scene section. To get the ball rolling, and to poke fun as Rossco’s goggle marks email him at rossm@warnersgroup.co.uk

Channel Hopping

Our good friend Ewart just dropped us a line about a couple of local lads that are planning on crossing the English Channel for charity -
The English Channel has been crossed by many paddlers and lots of records broken for speedy crossings.
Now youngsters Christian aged 13 and Wesley Hosie aged 19yrs old will attempt to cross the English Channel between 23-30th of May depending on conditions to raise funds for Children with Leukaemia. The trip of 25 miles crosses the world’s busiest shipping lane dodging passenger ferries and cargo ships. The strong tidal currents will also pose a big danger.
Launching from Shakespeare’s Beach near Dover and finishing at Calais France the boys will paddle a distance of at least 25 miles.
The have on water support in the form of Mike Oram form Channelswimming.com.
With support from P+H kayaks the boys will be paddling a Scorpio 170 and a Scorpio LV whilst being kept warm in wetsuits and thermals from Alder. A.S Watersports have helped them put with all the rest of their kit and kayaks for the team to train with. See how the boys get on at www.channelcrossing.net

High & Dry

We've been testing a whole bunch of surface immersion suits for the last few months, and we'll be publishing our findings in issue 96, so if you're in the market for a new suit make sure you get yourself a copy.

Snow Business

Headed out to Rutland Water first thing for a float about and was greeted with an absolutely cracking sunrise. Bright blue skies, fluffy clouds, slight mist on the water and all bathed in golden sunlight that gave everything that magical feel. Had a lot of snow over the last few days and it was minus 10 here last night, so the water was a bit on the chilly side to say the least! More pics in the gallery
