Careers in birding
Welcome to our Careers in Birding section, featuring advice, tips and a selection of currently available voluntary and permanent positions, both at home and abroad. Whether you're looking to help out on a nature reserve for a few hours at the weekend or wanting to kick-start a whole new career, this is the central hub of all you should need to get started. For an overview of the key sectors in which opportunities usually become available, see the 'Jobs for birders' feature in the July 2011 issue of Birdwatch (229: 30-33). This sets out the background to employment areas such as conservation, research and academia, environmental surveying and consultancy, media and publishing, tourism and retail, together with an idea of the kind of skills and experience required and the possibilities for employment. Online links and a selection of featured voluntary and paid positions, together with contact details, can be accessed in two separate sections by following the links on the right.
